How to Extract Specific Pages from a PDF
Sometimes you only need part of a PDF: the signed pages of a contract, one chapter of a manual, or the two pages of a statement that a form asks for. Extracting those pages into a new file is quicker than sending the whole document, and it keeps the rest private. Here's how to do it for free.
Extract a range of pages with docwhip's Split PDF tool
Our Split PDF tool runs in your browser and can save a continuous run of pages as a new PDF.
Step 1: Open Split PDF and add one PDF file (up to 50 MB).
Step 2: Choose Page range, then enter the first and last page you want. For example, enter 3 and 7 to keep pages 3 to 7.
Step 3: Click Split and download the new PDF.
If you need every page as its own file instead, choose Extract all pages. You'll get a ZIP file with one PDF per page.
The splitting happens on your own device: the file is read in your browser and isn't uploaded to our server. Pages are copied exactly as they are, without re-compression.
Pages that aren't next to each other
The page range option takes one continuous range at a time. If you need, say, page 2 and page 9, run the tool twice (once for page 2 and once for page 9), then join the two results in the order you want with our Merge PDF tool.
Removing pages instead
To remove a few pages, flip the problem around: extract the ranges you want to keep, then merge them back together. For example, to drop page 4 from a 10-page file, extract pages 1 to 3 and pages 5 to 10, then merge those two files.
If the document started in Word
If you have the original Word file, you may not need to split a PDF at all. When you save a document as PDF in Microsoft Word for Windows, More Options > Options lets you choose a Page range, so you can create a PDF of only some pages straight from Word.
Things to check
Page numbers. The tool counts pages from the first page of the file, which may differ from the page numbers printed in the document (for example, when there's a cover page or roman-numeral front matter).
Protected PDFs. Password-protected files can't be split here. Remove the protection in your PDF reader first (you'll need the password).
Review before sending. Open the new file and check that it contains exactly the pages you meant to share.
